Believe it or not, Wyre is a very safe area
Wyre Borough Council together with the Lancashire Constabulary, Lancashire County Council, North Lancashire Primary Care Trust and Lancashire Fire and Rescue Service has a statutory duty to work together in partnership and with other groups, communities and organisations to reduce crime and fear of crime in the Borough.
A recent survey of key crimes such as offences of violence, burglary and auto-crime revealed that Wyre is one of the safest Boroughs in the country with comparatively low rates of all crime.
Although the Borough continues to enjoy low rates of crime, the perception is that crime has increased.
Three Local Community Safety Actions Groups have been established to focus on identifying and putting into practice, solutions which reduce crime and disorder problems throughout Wyre. The Wyre Community Safety Partnership and its Executive Group have been set up to oversee and support the reduction of crime and disorder in our Borough.
Take Action
Lancashire Constabulary alone cannot prevent or solve crime related problems. A successful community safety approach requires participation from local individuals, groups and organisations.
Such community based partnerships can inhibit and remedy crime and the causes of crime and improve the quality of life for all residents.
Groups and individuals can help by:
- Joining or forming a Neighbourhood Watch Group
- Postcoding property
- Securing the home when it is unattended
- Carrying out a home security survey or crime prevention audit of the neighbourhood
- Contacting the Crime Reduction Officer for Crime Prevention Advice and Leaflets
- Securing a vehicle when it is unattended and remove all visible property from the vehicle when unattended
- Encouraging your local business / council to support CCTV systems
