  1. Go down the steps from the Fernhill car park next to the pond. Go left down the bridleway until you reach Back Lane. This track is an old anglo-saxon road. Go left again and follow this quiet country lane. Ignore the road that goes off to the left (Cemetery Lane).
  2. Turn right down the second track (Corcas Lane), which is signposted as a bridleway. This track takes you down to the edge of the River Wyre, and Barnaby's Sands. As you walk down the track you will see several unusual structures in the fields. These are brine wells.
  3. At the end of the track, when you reach the caravan site and the 'Wyre Way' sign turn right, and go over the stile towards Knott End. Follow the embankment until you reach the fingerpost and rough track that forks off to the right. On your left beyond the saltmarsh and across the estuary is Fleetwood. The section of the walk you are on now is part of the 'Wyre Way' (a 16 mile circular walk from Knott End to Fleetwood).
  4. At the fingerpost go right and leave the edge of the River Wyre. Follow the farm track round to the Coat Walls Farm. This forms part of the old mineral railway line which joined up to the famous 'Pilling-Pig' railway from Knott End to Garstang. At the junction, go left, and follow the track past the farm until you meet the T junction. Once again you will see the odd brine well in the field.
  5. At the junction with the fingerpost go right down into Town Foot. On your right is a small hill with the ruined remains of a minehead building. You will also pass between two ponds. Go right when you meet Back Lane along the quiet country lane. Continue along the road until you reach the bridlepath on your left, and go back up to the Fernhill.
