Cartford Hotel Pub Walk

A pleasant circular walk along the River Wyre and scenic footpaths of Over Wyre.

Terrain

Easy, level walking along a series of country lanes and footpaths that can be wet and muddy at times.

Distance

Approximately 6.4km (4 miles). Allow 1½ to 2 hours to complete the walk.

  1. Leave the pub car park on the footpath heading east, away from the pub, along the top of the river's flood bank. Follow the bend in the River until you reach a pipeline and footbridge crossing the river. Cross the bridge.
  2. At the road turn right and continue past White Hall Farm. Shortly afterwards a farm track goes off on your left to Crabtree Farm. Continue up this track to the farm. Just before the farm buildings the footpath goes off on your left through a white farm gate. Keeping the fence line on your right, cross two fields to come out on another farm track.
  3. Turn right and as the track forks bear left through the metal gate. At the end of the hedgerow turn left again opposite Brigg House, and follow the concrete track down to the country lane. Turn left and walk along this lane for approximately 200 metres before turning right onto Sandy Lane bridlepath.
  4. Continue up Sandy Lane past the second house on your right. Shortly afterwards on the left across the stile next to a metal gate. Follow the green lane to another metal gate and stile, ignoring the well used track that goes through the wood. From here the path continues across the fields to another farm track.
  5. Turn left and follow the track past Crane Hall on your right and Rawcliffe Hall Caravan Park and Crow Wood on your left. At the start of Millfield Wood on your right turn left through the fate into the field. Head across the field towards the stone gate posts in front of a group of tall trees.
  6. Turn right to reach the main road and left towards the Cartford Bridge. Cross the bridge and the pub is on your left.
