Poulton Town Walk

A circular walk through Poulton starting and finishing near Poulton YMCA.

Terrain

Easy level walking, also suitable for people in wheelchairs or with pushchairs.

Distance

Approximately 2½km (1½ miles). Allow up to 45 minutes to 1 hour to complete the walk.

  1. From the front of the leisure centre take the footpath towards Breck Road, just before reaching Breck Road cross the Eagles at the lowered kerb.
  2. Turn right at Breck Road following the footpath passing the Civic Centre, crossing at a lowered kerb on Parry's Way. Cross Derby Road at a lowered kerb and continue along Breck Road. Cross Lockwood Avenue at a lowered kerb.
  3. Passing Lockwood Avenue continue along Breck Road crossing at a narrowed section of Breck Road to the Railway Station entrance. Continue along the left hand side of the road to the junction of Vicarage Road to a lowered kerb and turn left along Vicarage Road.
  4. Reaching Vicarage Park, turn right at the second pathway (passing the skateboard park on the left). At the junction of paths bear left to the far corner of the park (junction of Higher Green and Station Road).
  5. Turn sharp left along Station Road continuing along the left side of Station Road, over the railway bridge to the public footpath sign for Moorland Road. Turn right down the public footpath along side of the railway.
  6. Join Howarth Crescent keeping to the left of the footpath, crossing Crescent Road at a lowered kerb and continue along the road to the end.
  7. Take the public footpath over the disused bridge passing the Hodgson High School grounds on the left and right hand side.
  8. On reaching the end of the public footpath, turn left and keep left along Moorland Road, passing the school playing field and Fylde Cricket Club to Moorland Gardens. Cross Moorland Gardens at a lowered kerb.
  9. After crossing Moorland Gardens, cross Moorland Road over to the right by the entrance to St Johns School playing field. Continue along Moorland Road to Breck Road, turning right along Breck Road crossing over to the Eagles and returning via the footpath to Poulton Swimming and Fitness Centre.

This route can be extended by visiting Poulton Village Centre if required.
