Housing Strategy and Policies
A new housing strategy is being produced for the whole of Wyre, Fylde, and Blackpool. The three local authorities are producing a joint housing strategy because there is a high level of integration in the local economy and housing market of the Fylde Coast. In particular, the single strategy will help us plan new housing and housing services according to how people actually live and work, unrestricted by local authority boundaries. Wyre BC is also developing an action plan that sets out how we will deliver the priorities identified in the Fylde Coast Housing Strategy in this area over the next three years (2009 - 2012). The Strategy and action plan together set out a long term agenda for change in the housing offer of the area and short term actions for housing services to respond to current issues.
The new Fylde Coast Housing Strategy and its associated action plan should help deliver:
- Better housing services to meet both current and projected future requirements
- Improved value for money as better co-ordination, working to a clear shared vision for the area, will increase the effectiveness of local authority and housing association services.
- More public funding by presenting a coherent vision for the whole housing market area and a compelling case for external agencies to buy into
Developing the Fylde Coast Housing Strategy
A consultation draft of the Fylde Coast Housing Strategy Consultation is available. The draft reflects initial consultation between officers and Members of the three local authorities, and housing association partners and we are now seeking wider input from interested members of the public, as well as structured consultation with a range of interested stakeholders.
There are a number of questions set out within the consultation draft on which we are seeking views. The Fylde Coast Housing Strategy Response Form summarises the questions and can be used to set out what you think of the draft new strategy.
Consultation on this draft will run until Friday 27th February 2009 - please provide any comments by this date.
The Fylde Coast Housing Strategy Draft - Short Version is also available which summarises the priorities for the area.
Comments received on the strategy will be used to produce a refined final draft for consideration by Members of all three local authorities in April / May 2009.
Developing the Wyre Action Plan
The Wyre Action Plan will set out the key actions that the Council and its partners will take to help deliver a housing offer in Wyre that provides everyone with a great place to live and underpins a successful local economy. It will translate the priorities of the Fylde Coast Housing Strategy into actions that reflect local circumstances and the resources available in the borough. It will also consider the effectiveness of current services in the area and set out how the Council and partner organisations will be held accountable for delivering the actions and outcomes in the action plan.
The Wyre Action Plan will build on a review of the Wyre Housing Strategy 2005-2008 and will be developed via the Housing Theme Group of Wyre Strategic Partnership by April 2009.
