Poulton New Cemetery
Poulton New Cemetery also known as Garstang Road East Cemetery was opened in 1929 by the Poulton-le-Fylde and Hardhorn cum Newton Joint Burial Committee. It was an extension to the existing Poulton Old Cemetery at the Moorland Road site where no further land for extension was available. In 1978 the responsibility of management of the Cemetery came under the jurisdiction of the newly formed Wyre Borough Council.
The cemetery has burial areas available for Church of England, Roman Catholic and Non-Conformist (which includes all other religions), a Baby Garden of Remembrance and a separate area for cremated remains. In 2005 the Woodland Burial section was developed.
In 1994 the Council arranged for an extension to the existing Cemetery, an area of which was consecrated in a special ceremony performed by the Bishop of Blackburn and the first interment took place in May 1994.
This Cemetery is set in beautiful surroundings where the Council have retained the natural aspect of trees and shrubs in the design and layout. Improvements are still ongoing in the establishment of the cemetery.
Within the Cemetery is a tranquil and quaint Chapel which over the years has undergone refurbishments and can be used for burial services. It has disabled access and toilet facilities.
More recent facilities for background music have been provided following sponsorship from a local Funeral Director.
