Article 4 Directions

Certain types of minor development can be carried out without planning permission. This is known as permitted development.

However, the Council has the power to prevent such development in order to maintain control over the way in which development is allowed to occur. This is done under Article 4 of the Town and Country Planning (General Permitted Development) Order 1995 (Office of Public Sector Information).

Often, Article 4 directions are employed in Conservation Areas, where there is a threat to the amenity and quality of the built environment.

At the present time, Wyre Borough Council does not have any Article 4 directions in place, but there are plans to introduce Article 4 directions in the near future.
