Supplementary Planning Guidance
Although current planning policy is provided through the Local Plan, the Department for Communities and Local Government (formerly the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister) recognises the important role of additional guidance in that it assists in the implementation of planning policies and can provide a level of detail that would otherwise be inappropriate for a Local Plan policy. This additional material is Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG).
While only the policies in the development plan can have the status that Section 54A of the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 (Office of Public Sector Information) provides in deciding planning applications, SPG may be taken into account as a material consideration.
With the commencement of the new planning System, existing SPGs will continue to exist as non-statutory guidance whilst the saved policies of the Adopted Local Plan still apply.
Eventually, the SPGs will be replaced be corresponding Supplementary Planning Documents as part of the Local Development Framework for Wyre.

Draft Guidance Notes
The Council has produced a new draft guidance note Myerscough College, Draft Development Guidelines - Statement of Understanding which is available as a download below.
This document was the subject of a public consultation exercise between 20th April 2004 and 28th May 2004 and comments were invited on the document.
Further Guidelines
The Council also publishes supplementary guidance in the form of Residential Development Briefs for the larger housing sites allocated in the local plan.
A comprehensive Master Plan which is to be read in conjunction with the adopted Local Plan, will be prepared for the Strategic Development Area (SDA). That plan will encourage and guide investment in the area.
