Arts and Events
There is an extensive programme covering Entertainments, Arts & Events throughout the Borough and a full programme can be found in the What's On Arts and Entertainment Guide which is available from Council outlets.
The Arts and Events Team co-ordinate, support and advise on community and council events, assisting with a diverse range of events all the year round. Along with other services they liase with local and national event organisers providing essential advice and assistance with the planning towards making a successful event.
Although art is enjoyed locally, there is no municipal gallery in Wyre, and therefore the Arts and Events team have been creative in utilising venues to present displays, exhibits and installations; such as beach huts, trams, shops, Marsh Mill windmill and the Mount Craft Centre.
Within our programme of events we organise regular workshops for those interested in arts and crafts ranging from mask making, printmaking, rag rugs and pottery; and for the more creative, papermaking, woodcarving and stained glass.
Wyre's Arts and Events team also co-ordinate a variety of events at key venues such as the Marine Hall in Fleetwood and Marsh Mill Craft Village in Thornton. Such events and entertainment range from the renowned Royal National Theatre and Cwmni Ballet to circus events, magic shows, steam rallies, craft fairs, dancing, festivals and concerts.
The Events team also provides a programme of seasonal entertainment along the promenade and within public gardens including the traditional Punch and Judy, and a variety of music, song and dance.
As well as producing their own year round programme of events and entertainment, the Arts and Events team also work with local organisers to encourage and promote events within the Borough. Such events include "Tram Sunday", the Garstang Arts Festival, Cleveleys Jubilee Day, Tractor Pulling, International Ladies Football and the Garstang and Great Eccleston agricultural shows.
The Arts team work hard to obtain lottery funding for heritage based projects in the Borough and work to increase public art such as the Welcome Home statue and Eros, both sited at Fleetwood.
