Making a planning Application
We encourage all applicants to apply online via the Planning Portal although we do accept paper application submissions. If you do submit your application online, you can still bring or send your paper plans and supporting information to us.
When making your application, you will need to ensure that the correct plans, fee, and other relevant information/detail is submitted. If you do not do so, the application will not be made valid and may be returned to you.
For information on what is required for all applications and, what additional information may be required for certain applications -
Please select a publication from the list below to view its details.
- Design and Access Statements. For information about how to write, read, and use them visit the Commission for Architecture and the Built Environment website.
- For most applications you will have to pay a planning fee which is set by the Government. See our Fees and Charges page.
- You must apply on the correct forms. All of the forms are available for download via Planning Application Forms, Certificates and Guidance Notes and Other Permissions, Consents and Guidance. You can also apply online via Make a Planning Application Online. Hard copies of all forms are always available from us. Please contact the Council at the address below.
- Once we have received all of the correct plans, documents and the fees we will acknowledge receipt of your application by letter.
The letter will show your application number and the contact details of your named officer who will deal with your application. We will also give you a target date by which we hope to have made a decision. This may change if, for example, you have to amend your application. If your application is not complete it may be declared invalid and returned to you. If however, the missing information can be readily provided, we will retain the application and ask you to send the required information within five working days.
If you use an agent to act for you, we will send all correspondence to them, including acknowledgement letters and we will contact the agent if we need more information. Your agent should therefore keep you up to date with the progress of your application.
