Tour Of Britain Cycle Race

Saturday 11th September 2010
Known in previous incarnations as the Milk Race, the kellogg's Tour and the Pru Tour of Britain, the Tour of Britain was granted world championships ranking status in 2004 by the world governing body the UCI (the Union Cyclisme Internationale) thus guaranteeing the cream of the world's cyclists coming to Great Britain.

The Tour of Britainhas placed itself on a global platform along with other major races such as The Tour De France and Giro d'Italia by attracting a combination of teams both nationally and internationally including such Pro Tour Teams as Discovery Channel, T-Mobile, Quickstep, Phonak and Cofidis. The Tour of Britain is determined in the future to become part of the UCI's elite Pro Tour calendar.

On 11 September the world's best cyclists will be lining up in Rochdale for the start of the first stage of the Tour of Britain to Blackpool. It's going to be a great day for the North West region, and we're looking forward to seeing as many people as possible join us along the route to cheer them on their way.

The race has got some fantastic scenery along the route of this stage, but one of the best places to watch the race (if you can't make it to the finish that is!) will be on the big climb at the Trough of Bowland. It will slow the bunch down enough to get a really good look and see if you can spot your favourites! The Tour of Britain will have some of the world's top riders and best of all, it's completely free, so there's no excuse not to come and watch!

Chantel McGregor

Thursday 30th September 2010
After the recent TG discussion 'why don't you see more girls playing guitar?', Chantel piped up to point out that she is just such a guitar-playing sister. She could give any of the Guitar Wars guys plenty to think about...
Style Everything's improvised, explains Chantel, I can do the technical stuff, but I dont see the point in playing something exactly the same twice. Her bluesy pentatonics combine double-stops and bends with tapping.
Influences We can hear bits of Hendrix and Stevie Ray Vaughan in Chantels brutal pick attack, but Chantels hero is her mate Joe Bonamassa, who shes played with several times.
Ambitions Chantels already got a following, so were curious whats next for her. I just want to write some new songs and enjoy seeing where my music takes me, she replies unassumingly. We're here to enjoy ourselves. You've just got to do what you feel.
Time - 8pm
Tickets - £8
Booking - www.marinehall.co.uk
